"Garid Magnai" is a wonderful film about a young wrestler in traditional Mongolia whose success angers the old champions and gets him into serious trouble. The title of the film is also the title often bestowed upon great wrestlers. Garid itself is the same as the mythological bird garuda, a common animal in many Asian countries. Produced in 1983 the film not only depicts one of Mongolia's best-loved sports but also the former Socialist regimes interpretation of feudal times.
